AUCKLAND RACING CLUB'S WINTER MEETING.

IPBKSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) , AUCKLAND, June 7. On the track this morning nothing of special importance waa done. All the horses engaged in. the, leading events were exercised, mostly doing* light tasks. All the competitors are now at headquarters, with the exception of the North Shore division. Nor'-West, Cannongat- Moifa, Kaimate, and Tarragon all appear* fit. Blackberry, Dingo, and Plain Bill are probably less seasoned. The two former toay ran well, but the last-named has hardly done sufficient "work. More light will bo thrown on the Grand National Hurdle Race by the running on the first day, but Cavaliero, Coour de Lion, Regalia 11., and Rufus are just now most fancied. Vieitora are flocking in, and a fine meeting ia promised. Last night 8 to 1 was accepted about Nor'-West and 7 to 12 Cannongate for a fair amount. Moifa is quoted at 4 to 1, Plain Bill 6 to 1, and Dingo 8 to 1; 200 to 100 waa acoepted about Cavaliero, and 600 to 100 Regalia 11. (SFECTAL TO "TH_ -BESS.") AUCKLAND, June 7. To-morrow a record attendance and fields are looked for, and fino weather now promisee to ensure the. success of the North New Zealand Grand 'National fixture. The town ie full of visitors from far and near, and I anticipate that the following eight horses will compete in the Great Northern Steeplechase, in which I fanoy Plain Bill, who has done.little work, and whose teeth have been the oause of his not feeding well since his cdming north, may be withdrawn:—Nor'- j West 12st 10lb (R. Hall), Cannongate 12st slb (SteAvart), Moifa lOst 12lb (D. Watt), Black-! berry lOst 101b (J. Redmond), Dingo lOst 7»b (S. Fergus), Kaimate 10at 4lb (C. Cochrane), Voltigeur 11. lOst 61 b (Mitchell), Tarragon 9st 71b (J. Burns). 1 look for a slashing race. Nor'-Weat, Cannongate, and Moifa I, consider most likely to fill the places. Blackberry, Dingo, and Kaimate should each inn well, and Tarragon has always a jumper's i chance. To try-and pick it in one, I name' Oanhongate. From out the field for the ' Maiden Steeplechase, Hinau and Hairtrigger are those .I prefer, but I am not sure that Hairtrigger will start. In the event of that. Contingency, Sudden ia the next best. The ' visiting pair, Jemima and Stepina, may be most dangerous in the First Maiden Welter, ! in -which there are twenty-three left, Tre- > •ham, Balbirnic, and Repetition may be the j beat of the Auckland lot. Hinau, Dartmoor,! and Royal Conqueror may be the beat of those in the Maiden Hurdles. Rosella, St.; Ursula, Honesty, and Sundial read well in j the First Welter, with a preference for t'm two former. Regalia 11., Cavaliero, and Rufus, in order, are to my liking in the '; Bemuera Hurdles. Regalia 11. may possibly not atari in which case Cannongate may soore. In the Ladies' Bracelet Fashion, Deriingcotte, Admiral Hawke, and Mars are those I prefer. Yesterday afternoon there was some betting over the leading events. A wager of 480 to <820 w«» booked about Nor'-West, and one, of £70 to £20 Cannongate, and 200 to 18 waa laid against Kaimate. At the same time 250 to 100 waa laid against Cavaliero.
