WEST COAST NOTES.

(special to "the pbess.") GREYMOTJTH, June 7. The master of the Leviathan Company's dredge received a rather curt notice terminating his engagement, and instructing him to hand over the control of the dredge to Mr Suther-, land, who has been working on the dredge with him. Those who are acquainted with the difficulties that Mr McCorarack has had to deal with think the directors have made a mistake. Anyway, the dredge has-now got over all her troubles, and Mr McCorirack's successor will reap the benefits of his predecessor's work, and likely get good -and eteadv roturns. A wash up took place late to-night, *but I have not yet got the result. It will, however, be very good. .. The return from the New Eiver Company's dredge is also likely to be fair, and the; return from the Maori Queen Company's dredge will be about the same as last week. Some say it will be_ better, but I don't think there will be xiuch difference. "" The pontoons for the. Day Pawn Company's dredge at Donnelly's Creek are ready for the machinery. This claim should get a trial in about three months. It is is highly thought of by residents. The contractors for the pontoons for the Kohinoor Company's dredge are making good progress, notwithstanding the late inclement weather. Mr Pearson, the contractor for the Prince of Wales Company's pontoons, has started to build. It is reported that before the Totara dredge sank she had finished one shift of a new week, and that the result, about 9oz of gold, is still on the tables, and will be recovered. It has not transpired as yet what steps the company will take. One thing is- certain, that if 9oz to shift be obtained it is too good to lose. The Blackball iMinere' Union are citing the Blackball Coal Company to appear and defend an action for an increase in the hewing J rates qnd other matters. A meeting of the Conciliation Board takes place on Wednesday. Mr Russell, of Brunncr, has purchased the j boiler and engines belonging to the Cumberland Quartz Company at Reefton, and as soon as the machinery arrives at Brunner, work will be proceeded with at the Tynesidd Coal Mine, and energetic endeavours will be made to get the coal on the market as soon as possible. The poppet heads are now in position at the Brunner Mine, and everything is ready to recommence boring. It is expected that operations will be resumed next week. Mr Young has been appointed by an English syndicate, along with Mr Scott, of Blackball, to report upon the condition of the Coal Creek and Point Elizabeth Railway, and to make an estimate of the cost of it's completion. It is understood that the.work will be put in hand ■ it once. ■ .
