BOROUGH COUNCILS.
' LINWOOD. A special meting of the Linwood Borough Council was held last night. The Mayor presided, and the Councillors took the usual declaration. The Mayor announced that it would be neces.-.orv to make some provision to prevent a deadlock, and suggested either the setting up of the u***a*tl committee."! or the appointment of tSe -Councillors to sign cheques. It was resolved to postpone the setting up of lommitw-.s till rhe ordinary meeting, and Councillors Brant and -ted were appointed to sign cheques, Cr. Bean being ap-pevlnt-ed temporary treasurer of t'r.j borough. The installation of the Mayor xrxi fixed for 7.30 p._i. on Wednesday, May 8:h.

The newly-elected Council attended at a special meeting on Friday r.issjbt.-. Present: Th*? Mayor (Mr Thomas), Messrs Henley, Hobs, n, Lord. Moore, Owen. Parish, Kcnme, ard Spreacibur*.*. An apology was received frr.ni Mr Bowro.n. The clerk was instructed to thank Mi* Tanner for his courtesy in supplying information relative to the Garland road crossing. The Tramway Company is to lie -written to on the question of the points at Prir.ces street. The following curnipiti.--'**; were set up:—Fi*:n*K~**-: Cr. Lord. He hi on. KAIAPOI.
At tha firrt ordinary meeting of the new Kaiaprni Borough Council letters were read intimating that the Charitable. Aid Board required £32 19s lOd, and the Hospital Board wanted £45 12.. It was resolved to defer the r;lie. tion of drainage of Clirist's Colleg-e Trustees' section on Cam so ad till the Mnndeville Drainag-e Board ton Id 'no consulted. It was decided to discontinue giving clny away from tlie Domain. The Finance Committee reported receipts £12 6s 6d. overdraft £405 5s Bd. and accounts were passed amounting to £158 4s 2d. Tlie tender of Mrs Knight (9s 6d per case) for kerosene for street lighting was occeptcd. An application from the clerk for hcrease of salary was considered, and referred to the Finance Committee.. The election of committees was deferred.
