Sir, --I am v.-.y glad to see in to-day's "F'retes" yrv.ir suggestion that a short- religious service should be part of the proceedings in welcoming back the volunteers from South Africa. We are ready enough when in trouble to publicly ask for prayers in our behalf, but scarcely is there an instance of our publicly returning thanks for mercies received.
