PREACHING BEFORE THE KING.
(Received February sth, 12.33 a.m.) The Bishop of Oxford preached in St. George's Chapel before the King and the Royal family yesterday morning, taking his text from Proverbs, xvi., 12. He said— "Thank God the last three years have brought to our consciousness a great element in the active, prompt, and sympathetic realisation of Empire, namely, its unparalleled growth and extension, quickened, vivified, and energised by the consciousness of common life. India, Canada. Australia have been new-born to true vitality." An idea had become a fact,. All were pleased that King Edward was called after his greatest ancestor, tTie first Edward. Let them pray for a seven-fold blessing on the seventh Edward. Memorial services were held on Sunday in all the cathedrals and churches. At six o'clock on Sunday evening the Bishop of Winchester conducted a short service in the presence of the Royal family. Madame Albani sang two sobs.
