COALGATE MARKET.
At the Coalgate monthly market on Friday there was an entry of 6300 sheep and lambs, a few cattle, and pigs. The consignments of sheep and lambs were, with one or two exceptions, all good, the sheep being mostly young and of nice quality. The fat lambs were all of even quality, one or two lots being exceptionally prime. There was a full attendance of both farmers and dealers, and bidding all round was brisk, nearly every lot being sold at auction, and those passed finding buyers immediately afterwards. Freezing wethers were ■_ conspicuous by their entire absence. The following were some of the principal sales:—For the Rev. Ronaldson, 84 lambs at 17s 8d; Mr Jno. Beatty, 71 at 16s 4d to 17s 2d ; Mr Ambrose Beatty, 104 at 17s; Mr J. Prestidge, sen., 57 at" 16s 7d; Mr J. Creswell, 271 at 16s 7d; Mr J. Turner, 167 at 16s 7d; Sir J. Hall, 520 at 15s 9d; Mr A. •Bouinois, 232 two-tooth halfbred ewes at 17s 2d; Mr A. Patton, 380 crossbreds at 17s to 17s Id; Mr J. Cteswell, 233 at 17s Id; Mr A. Boulnois, 260. two-tooth wethers at 16s 9d; Mr A. Patton, 384 at 17s; Mr J. Creswell, at 17s I*l. The range of values was: — Fat lambs 14s 9d to 16s, and up to 17s 8d for extra prime heavy weights; fat ewes, 14s 3d to 15s; two-tooth crossbred wethers, 16s 9d to 17s 6d ; ewes, 17s to 17s 2d; mixed ages, 13s 9d to 14s Id; crossbred ewes and lambs (all counted), best sorts, 12s 8d to 13s; inferior, 9s sd. Cattle and pigs sold at full Christchurch rates.
