OTAGO v WELLINGTON.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, September 16. The representative Association football match between Otago and Wellington was played to-day at Petone. Heavy rain fell throughout the afternoon, and the ground was a quagmire. Altltough the Southerners were beaten by three goals to two, they had a great deal the best of the game, and in every department were superior to the' Wellington men._ Martin secured the three goa.!s for Wellington, and D. McMillan and S. Brown scored for Otago. Brown, as wing forward, played the best game on the ground. Otago had Wellington sorely pressed during the greater part of the second spell, but could not make the scores equal. The combination of the Otago team was greatly admired, but bhey seemed to be handicapped by the state of the ground. Both teams left for Auckland on Sunday.
(PItESS ASSOCIATION* TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, September 15. The match between Lyttelton and Melrose Juniors, which was fixed for this alternoon, could not be played owing to the weather.
By the Rotorua yesterday the Lyttelton team returned from the NortJi Island, after having won two games drawn a third, and being imaible, through rain, to play the fourth thiy had been sent to play. They w«re met by a crowd of Lytte3ton admirers and tLo Marine Band, under Bandmaster Collins, played appropriate tunes. Mr Q. E." ColiiDs, "as scon as the team had come on to the wharf,-welcomed them in a brief speech, and Mr P. Cleary, manager of the team, replied, and. expressed his gratification at the high opinions as to the behavious of the members of theuteam, which had been expressed in tb© towns they had visited.
