MIDLAND CRICKET CLUB.
iTtae ttT.iraaH meeting of t\ie "Midland Cricket Club was held on Saturday evening. The President, Mr W. H. Wyaip Williams, occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance. The annual report reviewed the performances of tho various teams during the last season, and mentioned that the senior team after holding the. championship for two years, had been beaten by two other cluibs. The Junior Cup had been won by the junior eleven, whtr finished -the season with an unbeaten record. Well looked after by their Captain, Mr W. Richards, their play throughout was worthy of the highest praise. The club was aibly represented in the New Zealand eleven that played against the Melbourne team by Messrs Cobcroffc and D. Reese, and in the interprovincial fixtures by Messrs Cobcroft, D. Reese and R. W. Barry. The bats offered by a vice-presi-dent, Mr W. Lawrence, for the highest battiag average in the senior and junior elev-ens were won resDectiveljr by D. Reese end W. Mansell. Tlfe committee regretted the club was about to lose the services of Mr D. Reese, who was leaving for Melbourne, [ and of R. Barry, a junior who had left Christchurcli for South Africa. The club's thanks were due to their president and vice-presidents for their generous support during the past year, also to Mr J. Reese, the treasurer, for his labours. Owing greatly to the untiring efforts of the treasurer, Mr !J. B. Reese, the Club was in a sound financial position. The year closed with a credit balance of 9s 64, with a number of subscriptions to come in. There were no outstanding liabilities. The report and balancesheet were adopted. Six new members' were elected. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr W. H. Wynn-Williams ; vice-presidents, Messrs H. B. Carter, W. Grummit, A. P. O'Callaghan, j H. Forward, W. Tonks, J. T. Brown, W. A. Lawrence, C. Palairet, and M. Brown ; club captain, Mr J. l>. Lawrence; secretary, Mr H. J. Wilder; treasurer, Mr J. B. j Reese; committee, 'Messrs F. C. Gerard, R. j Strange, P. T. Evans, W. Pearce, E. Walls, E. O'Farrell. and; R. W. Barry; selection committee, Messrs W. Pearce, E. Johnston, and R. W. Barry; delegate to the Canterbury Cricket Association, Messrs C. W. Garrard, J. B. Reese, F. C. Gerard, and F. T. Evans; delegate to the Sports' Protection Association, Mr A. J. Barge; ground committee, Mr J. B. Reese. A letter from the Canterbury Cricket Association, re a suggested alteration to Rule 2, to the effect that-senior dubs entering for the Cup competitions pay £5 and junior clubs £2 to the Association, was referred to the Club's delegates for their favourable consideration. Mr Wynn-Williams placed on the table the handsome challenge cup won by the janior team. The bats presented by Mr Lawrence, and won by Messrs D. Reese and W. Mansell, were "presented to those players, who briefly acknowledged the donor's kindness. It was decided that the captains of the team 3 lower than the second eleven should be chosen by the Selection Committee. It was also decided not to enter more than one team for tbe Senior, Junior and President s. Cups. Fixing the opening day was left to the Committee, and September 29th was mentioned as a convenient date. The tharks of the Club were accorded to Mr W. Richards for liis past services, also to Mr D. Reese, with best wishes for his future welfare. A cordial vote of thanks was accorded to'Mr W. H. Wynn-WUliams, the President, who had occupied the chair at twenty-three annual meetings.
