Before the close of the ceremony in connection with the opening of the new Borough Council offices at St. Albans on Tuesday might, votes of thanks were, accorded Mr W. Jones for decorating the rooms with flowers, plants, etc., and also to the numerous contributor*, to the evening's enjoyment.The Engineers' Band will give a programme on the Rotunda on Friday evening, commencing at eight o'clock. A collection will be taken up by the Salvation Army for the benefit of the Indian Famine Fund. The Christchurch Hockey Club will hold a smoke concert at the Clarendon Hotel this evening. The matron of the Christehurch Hospital desires to acknowledge with thanks the receipt of magazines from Mrs W. H. Walker, and books for the children from Miss Gertie Talbot and Miss Elsie Evans.

The complimentary concert in connection with the Church of th* Good Shepherd, Phillipstown. will take place to-night, at tbe Choral Hall.

, The annual social of tbe Christchurch Shorthand Writers' Association will be held in St. John's schoolroom this evening. A sacred concert and illustrated lecture on Banyan's " Pilgrim's Progress " will be given in tl c Choral Hall on Sunday night. Mr E. H. Buckingham will be the lecturer and vocalist. As will be seen by notification elsewhere, the subscription list for season tickets for the Jubilee Exhibition closes on October 13th. Tho first practice of tho Jubilee Exhibition orchestra takes plane to-night in the Wesleyan schoolroom, Durham street. Tbe fortieth annual general meeting of the C.R.C. will be held in th« boathouse to-morrow evening, at eight o'clock. The opening run of the Pioneer Bicycle and Athletic Club takes place to -few Brighton, at 7 p.m., to-morro"*"-, and the paper chase, starting from the Museum, at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday. There are vacancies in the Cathedral choir for boys under twelve. Candidates must be at the Cathedral on Tuesday, the 18th instant, between the hours of three and five o'clock. Choristers receive a free education at Christ's College. The fortieth anniversary of the E Battery of Artillery will be held in the Gnn Shed this evening, when a largt number of members, ex-members and invited guests is expected. A meeting of tho Court of Directors of the Royal Humane Society will be held at the office, Chancery lan«, at 3 p.m., to-day.
