SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The Leeston School Committee met on Monday evening. It was decided to hold over the question, of (joining the School Committees' Association until a future meeting. A parent who had' a grievance against the master was present, and stated his case. The master questioned tho parent, and replied to the alleged charges, and the following resolution was carried by the committee:—"The committee having heard the parent's statement that he had no fault to find with the master, the master be exonerated from the charges brought against him."
At the monthly meeting of the Southbridge School Committee, votes of thanks were given to Mr F. Overton and Rev. P. J. Cocks, who had judged t_a writing com.petition. The chairman was accorded a vote of thanks for his donation to the school I of the flagpole. At a meeting of the directors of the Tai Tapu Dairy Company, Mr T. Quayle was reelected chairman. The manager, Mr J. Johnston, who has been in iU-bealth for some time past, forwarded his resignation, and it was decided to advertise in the Ohristehurch, Dunedin, and Hawera papers for a working manager to fill the vacancy. The number on the New Brighton School roll is 268, with an average attendance during the past month of 228. At the last meeting of the Committee a circular on- the drill of school cadet corps was received, from the Board of Education. It was resolved that the School be kept open as usual on Labour Day. It was decided that the Committee could not join the School Committees' Association at present. The Committee, being determined that the flag, when unfurled, wido credit not only to the School, but to every resident in the marine borough, it was unanimously resolved that a concert be held to further augment the funds for procuring it, and Messrs Pine, Nicholls and the headmaster were appointed a committee to make all necessary arrangements. The St. Albans School Committee met on Wednesday. The report from the .lady inspectors relative to sewing was considered highly satisfactory, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the ladies. The question of supplying Standard I. with supplementary readers (as recommended by the inspectors) was deferred till next meeting. The report of the Picnic Committee that the excursion be held at Sumner on Friday December 7th, was adopted.- It was resolved to close ths school on Labour Day October 106h. ■ *'
At the meeting of the Heathcote Valley bcnoo-1 Committee on Wednesday, the master reported! tha* a school library (containing 78 volumes, gifts to the school) had been opened, and that a school museum, was under consideration. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the master, Mr Stout. The Chairman was instructed if possible to obtain the voluntary assistance of. a pupil teacher in anticipation of appointment on probation after Christmas should the present attendance be maintained. It was decided, to observe a school- holiday on Labour Day October 10th. *'
The Sefton School Committee met on the 3rd inst. The Visiting Committee reported everything to be satisfactory. Messrs Marsh and Dakell were appointed Visiting Committee for the ensuing two months.
