(PBISS ASSOCIATION , TELEGRAMS.) AUCKLAND, April 19. Dr. Mason and Mr Gilruth had a conference with the Mayor to-day, and it was decided to break up the city tip at Grey Lynn in sections, and destroy the garbage with fire. In future the city refuse is to be dealt with in improvised destructors, of which five are to bs erected. The 80 pigs who fattened on the garbage were removed, and lire to be kept under observation. The wharves were inspected, and some rats secured for examination at the laboratory, the Harbour Board giving a room for. •the purpose. WELLINGTON. April 19. This afternoon the Hon. Mr Ward received a telegram as follows from the Government Sanitary Commissioners, who are in Auckland: —"We inspected rubbish tip, and found it in a most disgraceful state. We would advise that it be at once burned up, and a destructor immediately erected; or, if that cannot be done at once, that all manure be carried out to sea. in lighters. Wβ have arranged an interview with the Mayor of Auckland for to-morrow, when we will wire what he says re the tip and pigs. The Harbour Board are helping us in every way, and are willing to do anything we A crematory ought at once to be erected in each of the large centres in case death from plague ehould occur. As slight wounds or abrasions of the hands of lumpers may be a ready means of inlet for the bacillus, printed instructions ought to be posted up at all wharves, advising them to thoroughly disinfect by means of carbolic acid. Further, in order to prevent inoculation by means of fleas, lumpers should not work with uncovered arms, and their trousers should be tucked into We are experimenting as to the means of destroying rats in ships and on wharves."
