HOKITIKA, April 18.

Business men in Hokitika evidently believe that the district is on the eve of a substantial mining boom, for at a meeting this afternoon, at which Mr H. L. -Michel, Mayor of HokMka, presided, preliminaries in connection with the establishment of a Weatland Foundry Company were arranged. The capital proposed is in pound shares, and it is estimated that ±57000 will be sufficient for the site, buildings and plant. Local business men have expressed their intention of taking up 5000 ahtires. It was stated at the meettng that there were thirty gold dredging ' companies floated and registered in the district, representing capital of £300,000,- and that there were a number of others in the initiatory stage.
