.i The ■Committee in connection with the Christchurch Fire Police will meet at the City Council Chambers this evening. The ordinary meeting of the Sydenham Borough Council, postponed from Monday, will be -held this evening. The complimentary gathering to Mr H. F. Cray, yip ex-president of tie Northern A. and P. A_sociati_n, at Rangiora, is to take place to-morroW evening. ; On Sunday next Mr Bentley will deliver a, lecture on the "Sign of th.. Cross" at the Theatre Royal, with limelight illustrations. 'Mr Hill, the hard working arid energetic secretary of the Canterbury Yorkshire Society, is leaving for England shortly, and the members of the Society, recognising libw much he has done for it, intend giving him a send-off in the shape of a social. This will take place at an early date. "The Matron of the Christchurch Hospital acknowledges with thanks the receipt of story books, picture books, dolls, toys, pot plants, ferns, cut flowers, arid fruit from thei childrenrOf -St. Michael's Sunday-School. Superintendent "Smith has received donations of music, from. :3lessrs Milner .and Thompson, and a parcel- of books from Mr Wm. Pratt, : for the new- Fire- Brigade Station. * ... - - ; Work has commenced in earnest in connection with the bazaar which is to be held towards the close of the/year in aid of the Roman Catholic Building Fund. It willbe on a very extensive scale, more so than on any previous occasion, and the arrangements for amusements, etc., should prove wonderfully attractive. An art union has been arranged for, the main prizes in which were brought by his Lordship' Bishop Grimes from Europe, Savins' been presented to him by his Holiness the Pope and others. With such a programme* no doubt the Jubilee Bazaar will prove a great success.
