SUSPECTED INCENDIARISM.
ATTEMPT TO DESTROY THE SUPREME. COURT:
What appears to have been a determined though ili-planned attempt to destroy the Supreme Court buildings, was discovered about seven o'clock " on Saturday mcraing. On the arrival of the charwoman, she found .a window in the southern wall, just be'.ow the staircase leading to the cells, broken. On making further examination the remains of some burned paper were found, and it was also observed that the lining of the wall, near the window frame, was scorched by fire. The outbreak bad not got a firm hold, as when the discoverer came upon the evidences of it there were no signs of even smouldering, flames. Apparently the attempt was made late on* Friday* night or very early in the morning. As the portion where the attempt was made to set the building on fire is built of stone, and there is comparatively little woodwork about, with the exception of the staircase, it does not appear tha. the miscreant's plans were well laid. More damage could have beer. done by breaking a window in the wcoden portion of the building, where a. large portion of the papers are kept, and which contains the office of the Registrar and the Clerk oi Awards under the Conciliation Act.
