The steamer Fernfield got away for Auckland last night, but shortly after passing the heads an accident occurred to her pumping machinery, and she was towed back. The repairs will probably take a week. (Received April 7th, 10.10 a.m.) THE WEATHER. SYDNEY, Aprils. There is heavy rain and a southern gale, and a rough sea on the coast. OBITUARY. The death is announced of Captain Hemsworth, one of.the survivors of the charge of the Light Brigade at Balaclava. POPULATION OF MELBOURNE AND SUBURBS. • MELBOURNE, April 7.
