WELLINGTON, March' 9. The death is announced of Mrs Williams, wife of Mr James H. Williams, steamship owner, from consumption. She had been ailing for a considerable time.
NAPIER, March 8;
Mr James Grindell died to-day, aged seventy-seven, after a residence of fifty years in the colony. He was an export Maori scholar, and'did'good service during during the last Maori war. From time to time he occupied various official positions, including that of land purchase agent for the Government, and was editor of the now defunct "Wnaka Maori."
Mr Launcelot Giles, ono of the oldest settiers on Kaiapoi Island, died on Thursday morning at the advanced age of eighty-two. During a residence there of about lorty-fiva he was deservedly respected.
