About a qjuaßter past three yesterday morning 'the . Brigade turned out to a fire which had been discovered in a six-roomed house in Conference street, owned by Mr David Swanson, and occupied by Constable Lomax. outbreak was discovered, by Cbnsbabie Lomax*s brotiher, and all tho inimaiea go* eafely out with the exception of a son of ConetabJe Lomax. He was rescued with some difficulty by Mr Lomax, who had both 'his hands ana hb chest cut in doing so. The boy was burnt on the aim and leg, but not seriously. Constable Lomax was insured for £100 m the New Zealand office, and the house was covered by a risk of £110 in the Victoria office:
On Saturday morning a detacihod wooden building, used as store rooms, at the rear of the business premises of Messrs Ebzeny and Brain, hairdressers, Waiinate, wua burned down.
