NEW BRIGHTON.
The fortnightly meeting of the Council; was held on Tuesday night, when there were present—The Mayor (Mr R. C. Bishop), and Crs. Thomson, Pattrick, Rowe, Edwards, ; Oknville, Wyatt and Owles. Correspond-j ence was read from Mrs Rountree, regarding the accumulation of sand in front of her property in George street. The matter was referred to the Works Committee. The Sanitary contractor waited on the Council with respect to the difficult 7 which he had in collecting the charges for the removal of nightsoil. The matter was referred to the Sanitary committee. The clerk reported that the receipt of rates for 1898-18&J was £b 3s 6d, and for 1899-1900 £33 10s. The credit ■ balance at the Bank was £85 3s 9d. The j Worka Committee's report was read. The Committee recommended that a map of the borough should be obtained, also that the | cost of channelling and asphalting proposed to be done in Seaview road would be £6 15s per chain, kerbing only £1 12s 6d per chain, and tarring only Jtil per chain, and ; that before any channelling Dβ commenced > the levels should be taken of Hawkes street, j Seaview road, and Wilson street. The clerk was instructed to take the levels of Seaview road, before the proposed channelling was decided on, and to report at the next meeting. Further consideration of the proposal to channel and asphalt part of Seaview road was postponed until the clerk's report on the levels was received. On Cr. Thomson's motion it was decided to spend £10 on improving the road approaching the bain on the river. An account amounting to £13 18a lid was passed for payment, and the Council adjourned.
