The fortnightly meeting of the Kaiapoi | Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening. Present, all the Councillors, except Oβ. Doubleday and Eagle, who were granted leave of absence. Mr J. Bailey resigned his position as caretaker of the bridge and engineer to the fire engine, owing to ill-health, which was accepted with expressions of regret, the Lighting and Fire Prevention Committees to report next meeting as to filling the vacancy. Twenty-one persons petitioned for a bridge at Raven street east. The Works Committee reported that the cost of concrete kerbing for Charles street would be £30, and it was decided to patch the existing wood kerb. The receipts were £13 7s 3d, present overdraft £81515s 4d. Accounts amounting to £59 19s were passed for payment. Mr F. Thorne said certain ratepayers on Raven street had consented to his forming the »ame, and removing the soil for the bicycle, track, mid he now wished the cil's permission. The Mayor said till the street referred to was handed to the borough, the Council had no control. Messrs Duncan and Cotterifl, solicitors for Mrs Ri ?11, forwarded plans of new streets, and an offer of £150, if the Council would erect a. footbridge at Raven -street. A long discussion ensued; Or. ■ Hayman moved, and Cγ. Blackwell seconded—"That the Council approve of tihe streets laid out." Carried. Cγ. Blackwell Bored, and Cγ. Paraham seconded—"That when the streets and footpaths are formed, the Council will accept conveyance of the same." Carried. Cr. Hayman moved,. and Cr. Pearce seconded , —"That Mrs RevellU offer of £150 for a footbridge be accepted. provided the Cotmcil can carry out the work within that sum." Carried. Cr. Pearce moved, and Cr. Bug* seconded, and it was carried—"That the Council accept from Mrs Revell fotf a chain of land to widen an existing half chain road along the bank of the Cam.' It was decided to inform the petitioner* for a bridge of the Council's decision «n the matter, and the Council adjourned. I
