HEAVY YIELIS FROM ROOT CROPS.
I The director of the Canterbury Agricultural College, Mr J. Baynrs yesterday, reported upon the results of the experiments carried out on the College farm hut season with different manures on mangels, carrots and various kinds of beets, as affecting the weight per acre, and some exceptionally large yields were obtained. In mangels, Sutton's Prize-winner came out best with 97 tons 12 cwt per acre, a yield that has seldom been excelled in the colony. The highest yield in carrots was obtained with the yellow intermediate variety, which produced 67 tons 8 cwt to the acre, and this is also something exceptional. Elverthon Mammoth Danish, with 71 tons 10 cwt per acre, was considerably above any other variety of beet. Tic manures were applied at the rate of 2_ cwt per acre, with 400 gallons of water. Tho hi chest yield of turnips was 32 tons 14 cwt per acre, the variety being Imperial Green Globe, and the amount of manure applied was li cwt per acre, with 300 gallons of water.
