THE PAREORA ESTATE.

The work of catting up tbe P-reora. Estate, recently acquired by the Government for closer settlement, says the " Oamaru Mail," is now in progress. The area purchased is 8200 acres, and it is stated that the intention of the Department ia to subdivide about half of the land into forma of 100' acres, and the remainder into lamer farms of from 200 to 400 acres. A gentleman who is well acquainted with the estate assures us that a serious mistake will be made if such small farina are made as is said to be contemplated. He says that only a very small portion of the land is fit for occupation in areas of 100 acres, and that to make any of tbe lots of that size would be to condemn the occupants to a perpetual struggle for existence.
