MEETING OF CREDITORS.

RE E. C. YOUNG.

A meeting of the creditors in the estate of E. C. Young, insurance agent, was held in the Official Assignee's Office yesterday morning. Mr T. D. Harmaa, who appeared for the bankrupt, said the latter was not in a fit state to appear, although he hsd not a certificate to that, effect. His medical advisor hod sent him out of Christchurch. .The .Qificdai Assignee said there were no assets,-'and the amount owing to unsecured ere—u>rs was set down by the bankrupt at £1119 18s 9d, which, was the deficiency. The following are the principal unsecured creditors:—Messrs Wilkinson, £110: J. B. Rutland, £20*, T. Wells, £14; H. Panneu, ±-18; T. Muridge, £22; H. G. Sheppard, £78 j W. A. Tribe, £23 10s; T. Maude, £16; Dr. Ovenden, £70; Mason, Struthewi and Co., £18; Mis 3 Collier, £15; Miss Wilson, £11; Miss Eealy, £30; J. McGregor, £15; Addison's Sluicing Company,, £30; H. Garland, £402 10s 9d. There were a number of other creditors for sums amounting to £10 or leas. He had not seen the bankrupt -on -account of his illness, but the statement of his wife was to the effect that he was not in debt when*, he came to Chrisfcehurcb, but illness in the family, and the variations of business, had got him into debt, which had . increased owing to the state of hie heailfch recently. I .. Mr H. Francis said he was instructed by his client; Mr Sheppard, to teke steps in the matter. The Official Assignee had no certificates of the man's illness, and the proceedings were irregular. Other creditors concurred, several expressing themselves strongly as to the bankrupt's extravagance. The assertion was made that the debts were in some cases more than set downMr Francis said he held the bankrupt's written statement that, he had been in receipt of an. income of £600 a year. -' It -was resolved to adjourn the meeting until 2 p.m., on Wednesday next, to secure the bankrupt* attendance.
