BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

An ordinary meeting of the Canterbury College Board of Governors was held yesterday afternoon. Present—Bishops Julius f.'ndr Grimes, Messrs A. E. G. Rhodes/W. Chiystall, C. S. Howard, T. W. Adams, G. W. Russell, R. Westenra, T. S. Weston, J. L. Scott, T. Hughes, and the Rev. Dr. Morley. \ * J, .In the absence, through illness, of Mr H. R. Webb, from whom an, apology was received, Mr R. Jackson. .J - - A letter from ti*e Matster Painters' Association, relative to a conference between Mr Elliott, of the iSchool of Art, and representatives of the Association and Painters' Union, stated that practical tradesmen had been selected to teach the different branches of- the trade, and it now remained to bring the matter before the Board, which was asked to appoint a time and place to receive a deputation, from the Association and the Union. ; -.The letter was referred to the School of Art Committee. The College Committee regretted to have to report, the absence of the head mapter of the . Boys' High School, in consequence of ill-health. As a temporary. arrangement the senior master, Mr B. EL S. Lawrence, hod charge of the school, while Mr J. Harkness, M.A., Oxon., was assisting in teaching soma of the classes, a;t a waary at the rate of .£4 10s per week. The Committee recommended —'"That in the event of sufficient number of candidates presenting themselvesi' arrangements be made for holding annual, college examinations for exempted students, in the districts of Nelson, Mariborough. and Weetland. (As suggested by the- Professorial Board..)" * • The 'report was adopted, Mr Russeii having his vote recorded against the last clausa. A report on the School of Engineering wa& received from the Inspector-General of {Schools, and referred to the Museum and Library. Committee, after which the Board aijourned.
