SPREYDON.

The monthly meeting of the Spreydon Read Board was held on Thursday, 2nd inst. Present — M essrs Job nson (chairman), Brown, Freeborn and Ell. A letter was rood from the Avon Road Board, calling a conference of local bodies within the Christchurch Drainage District to discuss the ' liability of Board to maintain bridges over., their drains, the conference to ba -held on February 23rd. Messrs Johnson and Comer were appointed as delegates to represent the Board. It was decided to pay £5 as the Board's share of the cost of the boundary fence between the Addington school ground and tao Beard's gravel pit, £24. It was resolved that about 30 chains of the footpath on the Lincoln road and the piece of footpath on the north side of Milton street, between S trick iaiid street and Selwyn street, be kerbed with concrete, and that it be left in the hands of the Works Committee to carry out - by day labour. .The Works Committeo were also authorised to spend £7 10s in tarring any fcotpith in the district that they deem it advisable to do. Messrs Johnson. Brown and Fresborn were appointed the Works Committee for the next three months. Mr Ell gave notice to racy*—"That this Board is of opinion that local authorities should be empowered to lew * special tax on absentee land owner.-, and 'hut the Government be communicated with and asked to introduce a measure giving effect to the proposition." The total receipts for the month were £2SI 13s. The pay sheet, amounting to £202 15s 10dv was passed for payment, and the meeting closed. LITTLE RIVER. The Little River Road Board met on the 6th inst. Present—Messrs H. D. Buchanan (chairman), H.'White, J. C. C. Gebbie, John Parkinson, and Jas. Coop. The Canterbury College Board of Governors wrote relative to deviations on the road leading through E.R. 157. Mr White was authorised to wait on the Co"lege authorities relative to this matter. Mr F. A. Anson, asking for a survey of P-eraki Valley road, with a view of pointing out deviations made by the Board to improvo the gradient, so that titles could L be given to the.land taken and given by the Board. The Clerk was authorised- to attend to s this mattef.''lt 'was 'decided -that notice,__aould.be;given to the owner and .occupiers of'■'■the land abutting on the streams at: Little River to-remove willows or Other obstructions; that the necessary tender for bridge repairs be obtained • that Osborne's road dcrmation be left -in the hands of, the Clerk ; and that some repairs be effected on Main road by way 'of metal blinding; and t_at part of Kaituna river be cleaned*of bullrushes. TAI TAPU. This Board met on the 4th inst. Present —Messrs -Gil-tour (chairman). Herrick, Macartne- und Leathern. Correspondence was received from the Halswell Road Board that it will consent to the sale of part of Dunsford's \ alley Reserve. The Clerk was instructed to. sand out circulars for outstanding rates. It was resolved that tenders be invited for eleanihe. district drains, to be sent in by next meeting. It was reported that a small number of eggs and heads of small birds had been received during the month. After passing accounts for payment the Board adjourned. HALSWELL. The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on the 30th' January. Present—Messrs Garforth (chairman), Rhodes, and Lewis. An from Messrs Harman and Stevens for permission to sink a trial well on a strip of waste land adjoining the Heathcote river near the Wilderness road bridge, was granted. The secretary of the Waimakariri River Board requested to be supplied with the valuation of the district, and tho Clerk was instructed to forward the information. The Government forwarded copies of the Stock £&. A letter from the Springs Ro_d reference to the destruction of small birds was received. Tenders were opened forj'the .cleaning of rivers and drains, and that of Mr Sparks accepted. Accounts amounting-ta £668s lid were passed for payment. .
