WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD.
The monthly meeting was held at Kaiapoi Council Chambers, on Monday. Present— Messrs W. E. Parnhim (chairman), Feldwick, Chilton, Horrell, Hayman and Oram. Letters were read—From the Lands Department, intimating their inability to find a lease of R.S. 403. From the Returning Officers. Kaiapoi, notifying that Messrs Doubleday and Mathews were elected, and Mandeville and Rangiora that Messrs Lissaman and Horrell were returned. The signalman reported sounding the bar on the 30th ult. and 2nd inst., and found it was moved a quarter of a mile further south. Half a chain of Askheaton breakwater had been scoured away. The report was adopted. The receipts were £13 ss, and balance in hand £17 0s 4d. Accounts were passed to the amount of £9 2s Bd. Mr W. Eckersley offered £15 a-year for the store opposite the Post Office, if a strong room was put in. The matter was referred to Messrs Oram and Feldwick to report upon. A cordial vote of thanks to the Chairman and Mr Hayman was unanimously passed in acknowledgment of their services on the Board. Mr Hayman moved Mr Feldwick seconded,"That the collection of river improvement dues be suspended till the Board is in a position to proceed.with improvements." Carried, Messrs Horrell and Oram dissenting. After dealing with some formal matters, the Board adjourned.
