MIDLAND v SYDENHAM.
■In this match Sydenham had made 219 and Midland had ill up for the loss of one wicket. Barry and Pearce soon got the measure of the bowling, and the second century was up before Pearce was caught, after playing a very vigorous innings for 70. White kept up tiie run-getting and the score was within 11 of the third hundred before Reese got one past him. C. W. Gar-ra-rd was next,. and with the score at 358 Barry's fine innings came to an end, Fowke catching him off his own bowling. The retiring batsman received a great ovation on returning, for his 194 constitutes, a. record for Senior Clip matches. Notwithstanding two or three chances, Ids display was a very fine one, for he met the good balls-with impregnable defence, and scored freely off the loose ones, his driving being particularly clean. Two more wickets fell almost at once, but Wheatlev, Miller and Lawrence each got into double figures, and the score s;jO3t showed 411 before the last wicket fell. Of the many bowlers tried, Powke got the good average of three for 18, going on after six bowlers had been tried. The fielding was loose, and several catches were dropped. Being 192 behind on the first innings, Sydenham opened badly in the second, the third wickeli falling with the score a* 24. Love then assisted Reese—who had made 21 nicely—to play out time.
