LANCASTER PARK v UNITED.
The Lancastrians, with two wickets down for 167, resumed batting with Orchard (121) and Wilding. Collins, who had been absent on tlve first day. and Clark took up the bowling, ajid soon had the batsmen in difficulties. Collins's great pice and the shortness of his deliveries making him bump all over the pitch. Orchard liis score to 140, when he was caught at the wicket. Wilding. North. Cant aud Stringer left in quick succession, but Pavitt in the meantime had been busy, and by plucky hitting added 25 to the score sheet. Raphael also got into double figures, and the innings closed for 238. The United fielding μ-xs good, and Clark was the best of the bowlers, though Collins got the best average.
Being in a minority of 116, the U.C.C. opened their second innings with Wigley and Reeves. Both men played with great caution, and runs came very slowly. Eventually Reeves was run oiib with the score at 83, having made 60 by s.mnd defence and good hitting on the on side. The wickets then fell quickly until six were, out for 124. Wigley having carried his score to 50. made by good defence but monotonously tame play. Harman and Smith then made a serviceable stand, taking t'.ie score to 159 before time was called. "Bennett trundled very well. but the others were hose, iiiul considering the strength of tlio U.U.C. batting, it is surprising that a far larger score, was not made. The L.P.C. fielding was a little loose at times, but. good on the whole. Messrs Harley and Spencer were the umpires. The following are the scores : — UNITED.
