The E Battery Artillery wens into Camp of Instruction for fourteen days on Saturday. The camp is situated in the grounds attached to the Heathcote Hotel. There are four of the 9-pr. Armstrong guns in camp, the present maximum strengtn of the corps not permitting of the maiming of a greater numoer. Captain Donald is in command, and it is understood that Sergeant-Instructor in Gunnery -urberry will join the Battery as instructor early in the week. On Sunday morning the Battery started work in earnest, a fatigue parade baing taken before breakfast, and alter that meal a mounted parade, in which the guns were utilised, was held on the racecourse. In the afternoon, there was a dismounted parade with the guns. There were 44 on parade on Sunday and 10 more are expected. The instruction camp at New Brighton of the Queen's Cadets terminates to-morrow morning. They went into camp on Saturday week, and each day have been instructed in field and outpost work. The corps is in charge of Captain Lane, who has with him as his subalterns Lieutenants Rodgers and Bates. Yesterday the Company held an "At Home," which was somewhat marred by the bad weather limiting the number of visitors from town, but mc residents of New Brighton in large numbers accepted the invitation to partake of afternoon tea. The Garrison Band played at' the camp in the afternoon. • In the morning the corps attended divine service at the Presbyterian Church, where the service was conducted by the Rev. J. M. Simpson. This evening there will be an inspection parade by Lieu-tenant-Colonel Gordon. The Canterbury .engineers had a muster of 43, under Captain Dougall, on Saturday for their half-day parade. Through the volley firing at the range, the Officer Commanding thy District was not able to be present. The North Canterbury Infantry battalion go into camp at Bryndwr on Saturday. The City Rifles hold a smoke concert tol.ighi in their Orderly Room to Lid gocd* bye to Lieutenant Hawdon, who has been gazetted to a commission in the South Wales Borderers. An election for a successor to Lieutenant Hawdon will also take place this evening. The fourth and final competition for the bronze medal of the Hon. Reserve Corps took place on Thursday last, at the Cashmere range when Sergeant Wakelin headed the list with the good score of 88 points, made up as ■follows:—200 yds 27, 500 yds 34, 600 yds 27, Private Perkins coming next with 79. The winner of the medal this year is Private Perkins, who lias shot very consistently throughout, and he will represent the Corps in the special match set apart for bronze medallists. The following are the highest aggregates:—Private Perkins 256, Sergeant Wakelin 249, Private Allison 226, Sergeant-Major Manning 223, Corporal Robertson 219.
