NOTES AND MEMORANDA.
At the Durham street Wesleyan Church on Monday evening next Rev. W. Ready will deliver a lecture, " From London streets to Pulpit." The annual meeting of the Linwood Lawn Tennis Club will be held in the C.R.C. boathouse on Monday next at 8. A popular concert in connection with the Sydenham Football Club and the presentation of medals to winners in the schools tournament will take place at the Oddfellows' Hall, Lichfield street, on September 30th, at 8 p.m. A course of six popular leotnres will be commenced by Professor Bicker ton, F.C.S., in the Chemical Lecture Theatre, Canterbury College, on Wednesday, September 28th. They will be continued on Wednesday evenings. The annual general meeting of the Sydenham Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association will be held at the Club Hotel on Monday evening at 8The common jurors summoned for Monday next at the civil sittings of the Supreme Court are notified elsewhere that they will not be required. A meeting oi the general committee for promoting the completion of tbe Cathedral will be held at the City Council Chambers, at 8 p.m. on" Tuesday next. The Italian String Band will play on the New Brighton pier to-morrow, after the arrival of the 2.5 p.m. train. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Amateur Swimming Club will be held at the Clarendon Hotel, at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. "Yom Kippur," the Jewish Day of Atonement, begins to-morrow evening and lasts till Monday. Services will be held in *he synagogue. Owing to the delay last Saturday evening, the match between the Canterbury and Oamaru Chess Clubs will be resumed punctually at six o'clock this evening. Another general meeting of members of the Ellesmere A. and P. Society is to be held on Thursday next, when addresses will be given by Mr Charlton on " Hereditary diseases of horses "and by Mr Reakes (of the Department of Agriculture) on " Tuberculosis and diseases of cattle." If arrangements can. be made, Mr Reakes is prepared to give a practical demonstration of the tuberculin teat on a slaughtered animal.
The Christchurch Football Club sports, which were to have been held to-day, have been postponed. The anniversary services in connection with the East Belt Wesley Church are to be celebrated -on • Sunday and Tuesday and Thursday next week. The preacher tomorrow will bo the Rev. W. Ready, of Dunedin. In the afternoon the choir will give the sacred cantata " The New Jerusalem," and on Tuesday evening there will be a concert and coffee supper. On Thursday there will be a lecture by the Rev. W. Ready on his recent trip to England. A concert, in aid of the V.M.C.A. Rowing Club, is to be held in the Choral Hall on Thursday, October 13th. The annual dog show of the Canterbury Kennel Club will take place in Tabart'swool store on October 14th and 15th. There are 85 classes, and special prizes in every class. The entries close to-day with the Secretary. In the Lyceum to-morrow, Mr W. W. Collins will lecture on " The Logic of tue New Darwinism" propounded by Captain Hutton. There will be a musical programme before the lecture.
