GERALDINE FARMERS' CLUB.
The annual ploughing match in connection with the Geraldine Farmers' Club, took place on Thursday, in a paddock of Mr W. Deßenzy, at Winchester. Sixteen plots were pegged out, but only six ploughs put in an appearance, much to the disappointment of the committee. The championship prize was easily taken by Mr W. Brown. Though the ploughing was not of a high class, the teams were all good, especially Mr C. Mackenzie's team, of which a pair of mares took first prize. The judges were Messrs W. Kennedy (Temuka) and W. Patterson (Totara). There was a good attendance. The prize list is as follows :— Class A, Champion, cut as you please; firßt prize, 1 ton of Islington manure, value £5; second prize, £2 cash and Mr A. Bates's prize, service of True Blue—Mr W. Brown (Reid and Grey plough) 1, Mr Martin Brophy (Reid and Grey) 2; best finish, prize 5s cash, Mr W. Brown 1; best ridge, Mr J. M. Twomey's trophy value 15s, W. Brown 1. Class *C, confined to the Geraldine county, no cut allowed on share ; first prize £2 cash and Walter A. Wood and Coy.'s special trophy value £2; second prize, £1 10s cash and Roid and Grey's trophy value 17s 6d—W. Copping (Watson plough) I,F. Donnithorne (Duncan plough) 2 ; best finish, prize 5s cash, W. Copping 1; best ridge, Mr Geo. Bethune's prize, value 10s, F- Donnithorne 1. Class D, for youths under eighteen, confined to .the Geraldine county, first prize £2 103 cash and Mr J. W. Pye'B trophy value 10s 6d; second prize, £1 cash and Kempthorne and Prosser's trophy value one guinea— G. Winter (Reid and Grey plough) 1, E. Hawke (Reid and Grey plough) 2. Best finish, prize cash value ss, E. Hawke 1; best ridge, Mr J. Stringer's trophy, value 10s, G. Winter 1.
Special Prizes—Best pair of mares on ground, tho property of one owner, Mr J. Rennie's prize, service of New Hope, C. Mackenzie 1; best turn out on the field, Mr R. Y. Ferguson's prize, value 10s, W. Brown 1.
At the Crown Hotel on Thursday night the annual dinner in connection with the Geraldine Farmers' Club was given, the president, Mr F. Flatman, junr., in the chair.
