A conference was held last night at the : Papanui Library between delegates appointed by tho Riooaiton Road Board,'the Avon Road Board and the Papanui Progress Committee, for the purpose of discussing matters in connection with the channelling and drainage of Papanui.. There were present Messrs C. Burgess, A. B. Morgan, N. Ellis, J. Jackson, Nun week, J. Hanson, H. Tisch and T. Al. Buntin and Dr. Brittan. Apologies were received for absence from . Messrs \V. Boag and Biokerton Fisher. j Correspondence was read from the Rioj carton and Avon Road Boards with reference to the scheme proposed by the Progress Committee for concrete channelling, em- ] bodying resolutions which have been already 'published in the reports of tho meetings of those bodies. After considerable desultory discussion, it was decided that a canvass should be made to find out how many of those interested would bo willing to contribute to the cost of a loan to be raised by the local bodies to carry out the proposed improvements in the way of concrete channelling. It was further' resolved that this canvass be made without delay, and that the result be communicated to a future meeting. It was decided that a letter should be sent from the conference to the Christchurch Drainage Board urging upon them the necessity for at once grading the main drain, and deepening it if necessary, especially that; portion of it between the properties of Messrs Peterkin and Homer. The conference then adjourned for a fortnight. .
