ROBBERY IN THE CITY.
A daring robbery took place in Cbloffibe ■treet in broad daylight yesterday'evening, ;•-'"; when Mr W. Thomson's confectionery* shop :'\ was broken into. At about 6.16 p.m. Mm , *\ George Andrews and her daughter were . .\ passing by the shop door and noticed that it was open. As,they had previously seen the Misses Thomson shut tip the shop before leaving, they thought it strange, and looked in. They saw a man in the shop/ and at once asked him what he was doing there. He replied that he wanted a loaf of bread, and on their telling him that no one was in, he said he was in the habit of coming every night abont that time for bread. In _ ' good faith, Mrs Andrews gave him a loaf of bread, intending to tell Mr Thomson In the , " : '- morning. The man took the bread and vent •■ - v . oft. He had not had time to search the chop thoroughly, aa tfce nexfc fall contained a cash-box wjth a large sum . of money in it The police were at once in*' formed;' and at 11 o'clock Detectives Fitz-. Gerald and Cassette, who had been hard at work ever'since the police received the information, arrested a man on a charge of having committed the offence.
