PARLIAMENTARY BUILDINGS SCANDAL.
TO THE EDITOB OF THE PRESS. Sir,—To satisfy myself, I have referred to "Hansard," and on page No. 738, No. 24, find the following among the items on the Public Works Statement, which Mr HallJones moved to "lay upon the table": — "As announced by the Colonial Treasurer in the Financial Statement, the Government proposes to provide this year for the erection of a fire-proof building to accommodate the General Assembly Library. As the buoyancy of the revenue left us a large surplus to commence ttie present year with, it is proposed to defray the cost of this building out of the surplus, and a yote for £7000, as a charge against the Consolidated Fund, will, therefore, be provided for the work on the supplementary estimates." This is clear enough. Why, therefore, should thousands of pounds be spent on the work without the sanction of the people's representatives? As Mr Seddon is announced to speak here on Thursday night he should make a clear statement on the subject. "Twisting will not satisfy the Christchurch people.— Yours, 4c, TRUTHFUL JOCK .
