United Press Assojiatiou—By Electric Teleeraph— Copyright. Received June 11th. 10.10 a.m. Brisbane, June 11. Mr Chamberlain's letter to the Governor in reference to the New Guinea land grab has been received. It recommends certain amendments in the Ordinance, and concludes— " I have caused the Syndicate's solicitors to be informed that on the understanding that the Ordinance is amended as required I shall at once submit it for the Queen's approval." The correspondence between Mr Chamberlain and the Company's solicitors shows that Mr Chamberlain generally approved of the agreement, but asked that it be amended in regard to the Company requiring the sole right to purchase lands in New Guinea until they had purchased the whole quantity which they were entitled to purchase. He also required certain amendments in regard to the survey and the royalty on minerals. The Syndicate's solicitors replied, assenting to these amendments, and asked Mr Chamberlain to formally notify his approval of the Ordinance. • The Syndicate would then lodge, as they have since done, the preliminary purchase money. To this Mr Chamberlain replied that, as the amendments had been accepted by the Syndicate, he had informed the Governor of Queensland that if the Ordinance was passed by the New Guinea legislature he would at once submit it for the Queen's approval. Mr Dickson, the acting-Chief Secretary of Queensland, in view of Mr Chamberlain's expression that the Ordinance, as amended, must be adopted by the Legislature of New Guinea before he recommends it to the Queen, holds the opinion that it must also be further considered by the Governments of and the other contributing colonies!
