SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
At the monthly meeting of the Bromley School committee the master's monthly report showed sixty on the roll, and complained of the bad attendances. A letter was signed by all the committee to the Heathcote Road Board, demanding their immediate attention to the state of a certain portion of the road. With reference to the well, it was decided to ask the Board to sink to the second stratum at once as children are daily going home ill and parents threaten to take them from the school unless good water is got. A deputation from Christchurch was granted the use of schoolroom on Sunday evenings for Evangelistic meetings. At a meeting of the Harewood road School Committee, on Monday evening, the master reported the number on roll 123, and the average attendance 96.88. It | was decided to vote for Mr J. L. Scott for the vacancy on the Board of Governors. The Papanui School Committee has voted in favour of Mr J. L. Scott for the vacancy on the Board of Governors of Canterbury | College. At a meeting of the Committee Miss M. Adam's application to be allowed to teach shorthand was granted, subject to the head master's approval. The usual monthly attendance report was received from the head master, with a notification that Miss Kugsted and Mr F. Pratt had commenced work as pupil teachers. The monthly meeting of the Addington School Committee took place on Wednesday. Present—Messrs N. K. Bowden (chairman), R. Bell, J. Brown, H. G. Ell, J. Down, W. Johnson, W. Gale, and J. Moore. Correspondence was received from Misses T. Davis and V. Moon, asking permission to form shorthand classes in connection with the school, it was resolved to inform the ladies that the Committee had no objection to the classes being formed, if the ordinary school work was not interfered with. The tender of Messrs Wm. White and Co., for the supply of fuel for Hie cunent year was accepted. The monthly meeting of the West Christchurch School Committee was held on Wed- ' nesday evening. The Head Master brought up the question of a change of reading book, and it was agreed to leave him to make a selection in accordance with the list approved of by the Board. The Board agreed to the appointment of Mies J. Reese, who would be free to commence her duties at the end of June. The delegates representing this Committee, at the meeting of the Hchool Committees' Association, reported the matters discussed. The Rangiora School Committee has voted
for Mr Ell for the College Board of Governors, and the Kaiapoi School Committee for Mr Scott. Tho East Oxford School Committee mob on Monday evening. Tho master's report showed—Average attendance 86.7, number on books 112. In answer to a request that the school buildings should bo painted, tho Board of Education replied that there were no funds available for the purpose at present. Messrs Youngman and Ryde were appointed a visiting committee for the month.
