HUNTING.

The Ashburton hounds met at Longbeach on Wednesday, and had a run in the forenoon, but owing to the hard ground and heat of the day there was very little scent. At about 1 p.m. the hounds were whipped off, and Mr and Mrs John and the Misses Grigg entertained the party at lunch, which was brought out to the Meet and partaken of al fresco, and very much appreciated by all. Lunch over, a hare was soon found, but before she had gone very far the whip met with a nasty fall and the hounds were whipped off. Mr John Grigg was out on Kuku, who fenced splendidly. Miss Grigg was on her Grey Gamester, who was as keen as ever after her long spell.
