MARKET REPORTS.
On Thursday, at the Asliburton Yards, there was an entry of about 9000 sheep and 20 head ot cattle. The sale was a dragging -one throughout, and in sheep there was a drop of Is per head, while in the beef trade there was practically no business. The prices were as follows :—Fat cf ossbred ewe 3 5s 7d, 7s 3d, 7s, 9s 2d, 10s, 10a 3d, 10a sd, 10s 9d, 12s; fat wethers, freezers 13s 9d, 15s 10d, 16s 3d, 17s lid ; fat ewes and wethers 11s Bd, 15s, 13s 3d, 12s ; fat lambs 8s 6d, 6s 2d, 10s 3d, 10a ; store lambs 5s 7d, 5s 10d, 7s 3d, 5s Bd, 63 lid ; small ditto 2s 9d, 3s 3d ; crossbred ewes in lamb 6s 6d, 7s 5d ; old ditto 2s 6d to 2a 8d ; merino ewe's in lamb Is lid, 2s 3d, 3s ; turnipers 9s 3d. Cattle—Beef, heifers £6 to £4 10s, steers £5 12s 6d to £5 10s, cows £5, £6 ss, yealtrs 9s 6d. Stores—There were very few in, and these were not quotable.
, The following is a report of the weekly skin and fat sales :—There was an improvement in the prices of skins. Best butchers' half-breds made 4s to 4s lid, medium 3s to 4s, inferior 2s to 2s 9d. Best butchers' cro3sbred9>"3s 9d to 4s Bd, medium 2s 9d to 3s 9d. Best merinos from 3s 9d to 4s sd, medium 2s 3d to 3s 6d. Country skins, well saved, sold well. Rough Fat—There was a .much larger entry than for weeks past, and prices ruled slightly higher than last week. Best country fat up to 14a per cwt, best butchers' up to 133, medium quality from 9s 4d to 12s 10d. At the Midland saleyards yesterday there was a small mixed entry of sheep and a limited attendance. The prices obtained showed some improvement upon last week's values, freezing wethers making 13s lid, forward wethers and maiden ewes 10a 9d, merino ewes in lamb 33 6d, fat lambs 8s 6d.
At Limehurst, Waikari, on Thursday, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company held «a large clearing sale for Meesrs Parish Bros., who have recently sold the property to Mr W. H. Turner. Buyers and others gathered in great force from all parts of the country, and Mr Calcutt, the auctioneer, had the keenest competition for every lot," and the sale was generally regarded as one of the most encouraging which has been held in the district. Amongst tho sales were :—Forward crossbreds 8a lid to 10s Id, backward 7s 6d to Bs, young halfbred ewes in lamb 83 6d to Ste 2d, older 5s 6d to 63 9d, store lambs 6s 6d to 7s 3d, lambs (part fat) Bs, merino ewes in lamb 3s 6d to 3s 9d, very forward halfbred wethers 11s, draught horses £12 to £29 10s, and cattle, implements, furniture, &c, at very fnll rates.
