PRESENTATIONS.
A number of the members in Christchurch of the engineering trade assembled at the Wellington Hotel last night to bid good-bye to Mr W. C. Fraser, the representative of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers at the recent proceedings before the Arbitration Court. The chair was occupied by Mr D. S. Turner, president of the Society. After the toast of the Queen had been honoured, Mr Sturgess proposed that of the Amalgamated Society of Engiueers, and though not a Unionist, having resigned through no wish of his own, he strongly recommended young men to attach themselves to the Society, whose work he cordially approved. Mr W. C. Fraeer, in responding, approved of the action taken by the Society, which was the lowest paid, and said that non-Unionists would live to acknowledge that the Unionists were their friends, having battled for their interests as well as their own. Mr J. Chalmers then presented Mr Fraser with a marble clock, which had been subscribed for in shilling subscriptions, and said that the gift was from both Unionists and non-Unionists. Other toasts proposed and responded to were, the non- Unionists, the Press and the Secretary of the local branch Many members of the company contributed songs, readings or recitations. A silver afternoon tea service was presented by tho officers and attendants at Sunnyside Lunatic Asylum to Mies Revell, of Kaiapoi, on her leaving the institution •fter service m it for a period of five years.
