MR J. M. BARRIE.
Mr J. M. Barrie received the honour of Doctor of Laws at St. Andrew's University on April 25th. In presenting him to be capped, Professor Meiklejohn said .-—"James Matthew Barrie is an M.A. of the University of Edinburgh, and a leading citizen m the republic o£ letters. His books are enjoyed wherever the English language,, is spoken. He has made Thrums a familiar place to the dwellers in London and New iVork. In the most common things he has found new sources of poetry, humour, and pathos. A conscientious and skilful artist in words, he has shown to the world the power that was latent iv the homely speech of his native Angus, and the heroism that can consist in lowly lives of toil, monotonj, and suffering." Mr Barrie was received with loud cheers as he was capped by the principal.
