CITY RIFLES' SHOOTING.
It was lucky for the City Rifles that all other local corps had completed their firing as it enabled them to get through the final match of their aggregate prize series on Saturday in time to catch a fair light for even the last shot. The day, although at first appearance a magnificent day for shooting, was very deceptive, the " drift" acro33 the range, which was from the left front, upsetting the calculations of more than one of the shooters. The competition was at 300, 500 and 600 yds, the ammunition used being the Kynoch imported by the corps. Certainly the members bad nothing to complain of on the score of ammunition, which throughout gave first class results. The following are the highest scores :— A Class, 3(X£ 500, 600 yds, heap, totalPrivate Cork 28, 27, 21 (11)—87 ; L»nceCorporal Dodd 25, 27, 21 (10)-83 ; Sergfc. Trebilcoek 27, 31, 25 (scr)—B3; Sergt. There was an immediate rush to see the aggregates of the A class, when it was found that the results were—Colour-Sergeant Bean, 329 ; Private Cork, 321; Lance-Cor-poral Dodd, 320 ; Private Chapman, 316 ; Sergeant Jackson, 314; Sergeant Trebilcock, 314; Private Harry, 312. In the B and C class there are still a few men to fire. The final match at 600 and 700 yards, with two sighters at each range, for the champion belt of the corps, which takes place next Saturday, promises to be one of the most exciting contests yet held on the Bromley range. The scores made will be added to the aggregates made from scratch during the series of matches. At present the highest aggregates are—Sergeant Trebilcock 314, Sergeant Jackson 314, ColourSergeant Bean 294, Private Chapman 294. Private Harry 290, Private Cork 285, Lance-Corporftl Dodd 276, Private Spry 245. At the Garrison Library next Tuesday evening, Lieutenants Neave (Mounted Rifles) and Holdernese (Imperials) will sit for their first examination for an Imperial commission.
