AUCKLAND RACING CLUB'S AUTUMN MEETING.

AUCKLAND, April 16. The above meeting wae brought to a conclusion to-day. The weather was fine, and there was a good attendance, including the Hon. the Colonial Secretary. Some splendid racing was witne ised, and two big dividends paid. A fine field of thirteen went out for the St. George Handicap, Rex being a strong favourite. He suffered a neck defeat at the hands of St. Paul, who came with a strong run all the way down the straight. The win was very popular, there being loud cheering at the finish. Miss Nelson's success in the Steeplechase was also greeted with great cheering. The sum of £8163 passed through the totalisator, making £24,643 for three days, against £20,848 last year. Mnecatel Bhowed the way over the first hurdle, and across the top stretch she was a length in front of Vanish, to whom succeeded Voltigeur and Adam. Muscatel still" had command all up the back, but Vanish closed on her as they raced to the home turn. Once in the straight, Muscatel came away and won easily by three lengths, Erena ten lengths away third, Voltigeur was fourth. Adam got rid of his rider, who escaped unhurt, at the six furlong post. Kingswood went off with the lead, and was first to reach the water jump, over which he was followed by Voltigeur 11., after whom Kingswood continued in comtnand up to down the hill. At the staud double Voltigeur 11. and Magpie had closed up, and ascending the hill the second time Magpie took the lead, Miss Neleon here supplanting Klngswood. At the stone wall coming to the course proper Magpie and Miss Nelson were on terms,, and the latter, coming away in the straight, won by two lengths, Magpie twenty lengths in front of Voltigeur U, Kiugswood fourth. Time, 6min 35sec. Dividend, £1 15s.

Rex got the worst, of the start, Porangi Potae and St. Elmo being first away. The pair led to the half-mile post, when Eton joined issue, and he showed the way into the straight. At the Derby stand he waa still in front. A great finish ensued between Eton, Rex, Brilliant, Cuirasette and St. Elmo. In the last few strides Brilliant forged ahead, and although Rex on the inside made a gallant effort he suffered defeat by a head, three parts of a length between second and third, Eton close up fourth. Time, lmin 4£sec. Dividend, £41 3s.
