McGREGOR WINS THE CHAMPIONSHIP.

OAMARU, March 21. The weather this morning is fine, but * fresh wind from the left made the shooting difficult. The Teams Match opened the day'a proceedings, and the shooting was las from good. MoFarlane, of the winning team, made the highest individual score of 94. The average of the winners is 81| noints, while here, in 1896, Woodville, v/ho tinished first, averaged 97j} points. The weather wa- chiefly the cause of the reduced average. Following is the result of the Teams Match:—Christchurch Honorary Reserve No. 1 team, £15, 409 ; Timaru Port Guards, £10, 389; Christchurch Honorary Reserve No. 2 team, £7, 388 ; Woodville Rifle Club, £4, 306. Other scores were— Petone Rifle Club, 385 ; Kaitaugata, 384 ; Dunedin City Gwrds No. 1 team, 367 j Wellington Guards, 364; Wellington City Rifles, 356; Dunedia City Guards No. 2 team, 326.

FollojWing are the prizetakera in the Nursery Match, of ten shots, of 500 yards, open to non-prizetakers of over £4 at previous meetings, or £5 at the present meeting :— Stewart (Dunedin), £6, 46; Brooks (Tua. pekft), £5, 46 ; Waugh (Timaru), £4, 46; \Pearce (Timaru), £3, 46 ; Stephen (Tiniaru), £2, 45; W. In the District Representatives match Otago and (Southland won the shield with 1042, Canterbury 912, Wellington 910. There is no money, prize in this match. Captain Ohalmer, of Dunodin, was the highest individual scorer with 61, last year 1083 won it.

Otago won the volley firing, scoring 605 for hits on the target, and 205 points for volleyj. Canterbury scored 677 and 190, making a total of 767. Only the two teams entered.

At 1.20 p.m., when the final stage of the ohftinpion-fiiip was to bo fired,.the wind in* creased to humoane force, and as tho targets were collapsing Major tionunorviiie gave orders to cease tiring. It was then doubtful if there would be any more shooting that day, and later on the officers , mess tents, the canteen marquee and six of the bell tents were levelled to the ground. However, later in the day it waa resolved to fire for the Championship, and this was done, though the weather was wretched. The following was the result:— Championship, the aggregates in the Belt matches being added to the score in the final stage; 700 yards, ten shots.
