The Spanish Government has instructed the flotilla, which recently sailed for Cuba, to remain at the Canary Islands for the present. AUSTRALIAN FEDERATION. ' London, March 18. The Standard regrets that the Federal Convention did not decide to vest in the Commonwealth all the powers not assigned to the States. The friendly natives have occupied Metemmeh. ELECTIONS IN JAPAN. Tokio, March 19. The Japanese elections have resulted in a small majority for the Government. Received March 20th, 5.15 p.m. MR GLADSTONE'S HEALTH. London, March 19. Mr Gladstone, in the absence of any improvement in his health by his sojourn at Bournemouth, will return to Hawarden. MR CECIL RHODES, Capetown, March 19. Mr Cecil Rhodes has sailed for England, but intends to return to the Cape shortly.
