FORBURY TRAINING NOTES.

[By Telegraph.]

(FROM ODR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

DUNEDIN, March 19.

Though the weather was bitterly cold on Saturday morning, trainers took the opportunity of a drying track to send most of their charges for strong gallops, Emmeline went before it waa daylight, and stretched out satisfactorily over a mile and a ball. No doubt she is very well, and many would like to see her tested against other than ber stable companions, as she regularly beats these with the greatest ease. St. Paul's mis-i"n was not of a severe nature, consisting of six furlongs at half-pace and a mile strong. He does not, however, want more than enough to keep bis pipes open. I did net care much fo_ tbe way o_lve_o

shaped. She seemed'to tire, though she had not really galloped fast for more than a mile. Sequin ran her mile and a half in about 2.50, what may be called a good working gallop. She is pretty fit, but seldom finishes well. It is thought she will go better in tbe race. The surprise ot the morning was the way in which Hippomenes romped over Benson" at five furlongs. The old chestnut showed something like the form of his younger days. Red Lancer, heavily booted, was kept to medium pace work, and does not seem at his best yet. His party say he will start in the Cup. The best gallop of the morning undoubtedly was that by Antares, who beat Starshot badly and raced home very stoutly. Starshot's gallop was too bad to be her true form, yet the way in which she pulled up seemed to indicate sho had been doing her best. Epaulet made a sorry exhibition of himself, simply refusing to try, and Pitch and Toss galloped right away from him. The latter showed that she is thoroughly ready for next Wednesday's encounter.
