INTERPROVINCIAL MATCHES.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS.) WELLINGTON, December 25. The Midland Canterbury Club began their annual match with their Wellington namesakes to-day. Unfortunately the Te Anau had a rather rough passage, and though the visitors won the toss they were suffering too much from the effects of the trip to go in and they had to take the field. Neither team contained more than four or five first eleven men. The Wellington Club at 6.30 had scored 160 for eight wickets. Hickson was top scorer with an excellent 52, while Weybourne made 33, A. Smith 22, S. Tucker 17 not out, K. Tucker 14. The match will be continued on Monday. Lancaster Park Juniors also played a oneday match with the Second Eleven of the of the Wellington Club. The latter had eight wickets down for 90, but tho next two men hit so well that the score was advanced to 190 before the last wicket fell. Dixon made 55, Harden 39, Organ not out 36, and extras provided no less than 39. Lancaster Park scored only 126, and were beaten on the first innings. F. Toomer made 31, Turner 17, Johnstone 15, Jack 13, and Manning 19. NAPIER, December 25. In the interprovincial match Taranaki v Hawke's Bay, the latter made 349 in their first innings. Wolstenholme made a century, Marshall 49 and Wilson 40. Taranaki have five wickets down for 49 runs. The match will be continued on Monday.
