PIGS.
Pigs were not so numerously entered as last year, bat the quality was excellent, and in some of the classes there was keen competition. Mr G. E. Rhodes, who was the chief exhibitor of Berkshires, showed some really fine specimens ot the breed. His first and second prize aged boars, Lord Charles and King Quail, were grand animals; bub the third one, Experiment, somewhat lacked in length. The same owner alsoshowedsoraegood young boars; but in breeding so W3 Mr Jas. Rowe came out first in both classes with lengthy, roomy animals, having good litters. In young sows Mr G. E. Rhodes had it almost all his own way with excellent exhibits. There was better competition in the Yorkshire large breed, Mr John Deans being the chief prizetaker with fiDe specimens of his well-known strain. Mr Jas. Rowe and the Sunnyside Asylum were also successful in the classes for sows in which they exhibted. Mr S. Garforth and Mr JameeKowe showed some good exhibits of the small Yorkshire breed, and the latter had one of the principal features of the show of pig 3in his exhibits of Tamworths which he recently bought from Messrs Wilson Bros., who introduced this useful breed to the province. The two imported boars were first and second, and the young boars and sows, their progeny, were also awarded full honours. Three sows with good litters were also shown. The value of the Tamworth for crossing with the Berkshire to produce baconei-3 is now being recognised, and the first and special prizes for baconers went to Mr Jas. Dunlop, who showed good apecimens of this cross, Mr J. Deans being second with a pen of Yorkshire barrows, Mr W. Scoon was first and the Sunnyside Asylum second for porkers. It may be mentioned that Mr Jas. Rowe has sold to the Hawkesbury Agricultural College, New South Wales, the from his prize litters of Berkshires, Tamworths, and Yorkshires, and also three young Tamworth sows.
