WANGANUI.

August 23rd. The Refkrke's Wellington " Special" was in error when he stated that Napoleon was not nominated by his owner for the Maiden Hurdle Race at the Grand National meeting. As a matter of fact he was, as the horse was leased to Mr Cullen, and had reverted to his owner, Mr J. Humphreys, who nominated him for the race mentioned. There is nothing of special interest to record of the past week's work on the training track. Sedgebrook, Vom Pom, The Onyx and Realistic are all going and looking well. Kangipuhi was in town this week. His owner intends to race him again after serving a few mares, so that it is possible that the son of F<Sve and vlystery Girl will add to his laurels towards the end of the season. I heai , on good authority that only two jockeys* licenses were granted at the last committee meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club, consideration of the remaining applications being adjourned till the next meeting. Mr CJeo. Walker has np to now booked the thoroughbred maves Reve and Muriwai for service by Son-Wester. I understand that Souvenir, now in J. P. Belcher's stable, and who won a double at the last meeting of the Rangitikei Hunt Club, will compete at the Marton meeting next month. Mr J. Paul has parted with Variety, by Natator—Last Chance, but D. Chapman is preparing her for future engagements. Mr T. Bristol's horses are all looking and doing well. Light has been enjoying a wellearned spell, but is now in hand in view of Spring Meetings. This horse should be firstclass at the illegitimate game. Swift is looking none the worse for all the jumping she has done, and in fact is as sound as ever. She is as game as anything on this coast, as witness her running in our late Steeplechase Meeting, when, after almost completing the steeple country, she nearly annexed the Hurdles shortly afterwards", thus proving what she is made of.

Whitney, by Foul Shot—Gladiator mare, is shortly to be taken in hand for the Ashurst Guineas and Egooont engagements.
