HAWKES BAY.
August 23. Tally-ho, Puketoi, Tameraogi and Capon tlouge" returned on Saturday by the Westralia. Capon Rouge, who had been leased by Mr Lowry for tho Christehurch meeting, has been returned to his owner. His Bracelet performance at Christohurch was a good one, the . two milea being traversed in good time considering the weights carried, and the big chestuut ehould pay bis way at hurdle racing, even if not in the front rank of racers. F. Collins has taken in hand a four-year-old mare named Rivefc, by Torpedo—Swiveline, .consequently a half sister to Link and Swivel. Manning,, who some time back used to don the colours of Mr- J. Paul, will in future do the flat race riding for Collin.Vs Stable.
Very little important work is being done on the training tracks jusfc now, the wet weather experienced daring the past throe weeks having interfered with fast work. However, most of the horses with important spring engagements are in pretty good buckle for the time of the year. St. Conon is looking and galloping well. The Tally-ho party were disappointed at the display made by the mare in the Grand National Steeplechase, but I believe the mare was suffering from soreness.
