THE COMMONWEALTH BILL. Sydney, August 25.
The Assembly by 47 to 32 negatived a motion that the Commonwealth Bill be treated as a matter of urgency and be taken through all its stages in one day.
COMPLIMENTARY BANQUET.
Melbourne, August 25.
A complimentary banquet was tendered to Sir George Turner by the members of both Houses. The speakers eulogised the Premier's work in England. Sir George Turner said that Mr Chamberlain'a sympathies were unquestionably with the colonies, and he was determined to exert himself to the utmost for their future welfare.
QUEENSLAND AND THE JAPANESE.
Brisbane, August 25.
Mc Tozer has received information that the Japanese Government require all Japanese leaving Japan to provide themselves with passports, and to provide against their secret embarkation as emigrants they will be required to produce their passports on arrival in Queensland.
EICH FINDS AT KALGOORLIE
Perth, August 25
Activity is being displayed over the Kalgoorlie mines owing to the phenomenal finds made during the last few days. Kalgoorlie United, Lake View South Associated mines, and the Bank of England mines have come across extremely rich telluride.
