NORTH TRAIN DELAYED.
TO THE EDITOR OV THE PRESS.
Sir,—The North train waa delayed at Kaiapoi this morning nearly fifteen minutes to allow the " flying Dutchman " to check the tickets. Might I suggest, as there is an enormous loss of time and detention on this line, that if the Minister of Railways has not sufficient confidence in his guards, he might arrange for the ticket checker to perform his duties while the train is travelling. There surely is no need to keep a train standing ac a station for a little thing like that. The checking official could get on the train at one station and get off at the next. lam sure his time was not so valuable as mine was this morning. Besides, the system is one which delays men getting to business or to juries, or to sales, and also delays the schoolboys in getting to their schools.—Yours, &c., Six.
